Persuasion: A Study On Getting What You Want With Dragons’ Dens’ Arlene Dickinson Part 1

“Persuasion: A New Approach To Changing Minds” by Arlene Dickinson, one of the angel investors on the hit Canadian TV series Dragons’ Den, is a fascinating, inspiring new book on marketing that any real estate professional can benefit greatly from, especially women.  Arlene is a sage talker and negotiator and much can be learned from her no-nonsense, down to earth manner and approach to marketing and sales.  In this article series I’ll talk about what I found were the best parts of Ms. Dickinson’s book and discuss how real estate professionals can use these insights for (among other things) getting more listing appointments and closing more listing presentations.

This book will particularly appeal to the women entrepreneurs out there because perhaps the greatest part of Arlene’s story is how much of an “everywoman” she really is.  Seeing where she has come from and where she is today is just further proof to me that success is possible for any woman, regardless of their past or present circumstances.  Arlene has been through a lot in her life, and she pulls no punches in describing it all, even parts most people would prefer to hide about themselves.  That’s just a testament to her thorough going honesty and integrity in both personal and professional matters.  Many women will keenly identify with much Arlene has gone through and will derive much understanding and new found confidence from her story.

Arlene Dickinson is widely recognized as one of the most accomplished business women in Canada.  Her company Venture Communications is now one of Canada’s largest independent marketing firms, with offices in Calgary, Toronto and Ottawa.  She’s been the recipient of numerous awards including Profit Magazine’s Top 100 Women business Owners from 2001-2006 and she has an estimated personal net worth of $80 million.  She joined Dragons’ Den in 2006 as the show’s only female dragon.  The show has become the highest rated TV program in Canada, even more popular now than Hockey Night In Canada.
