Cold Hard Truth: Learning From Dragons Den’s Kevin O’Leary On Business, Money And Life Part 19

October 24, 2011

It’s particularly valuable if you can find a business partner who is good at and has a passion for writing.  Being successful today with an ecommerce based real estate business requires having a website with high search engine ranking for your farm area.  You get that by having new written content on your farm area getting regularly added to your website.  Your site’s search engine ranking will go nowhere without doing this.  It shouldn’t be hard to find a good writer at your office.  There are likely many university graduates with arts degrees at your office.  During their university days what these people mostly did was spend literally thousands of hours researching in the library and writing long essays.  Consequently, such a person is ideal for helping write for your website and writing your listing presentation materials.

Another valuable skill to look for in a partner is internet marketing savvy.  If you know of anyone in your office doing pay per click ads such as Google AdWords be sure to talk to them about their success.  It may just be they’re great at driving traffic to their website but aren’t good with listing presentations and would make a great complement to your skill set.  Seriously consider partnering with such a person as well as a writer.

I told you about the upside to a company’s economic down cycle: when money is scarce, it heightens your senses.  It attunes you to where you can slash to stay afloat.  Tough times can be enlivening – exciting, almost.” – from Cold Hard Truth

You’ve no doubt seen other sales reps in your company complaining about the economy or the real estate market, implicitly or explicitly blaming it for their lack of results in recent months or even recent years.  Yet when money becomes scarce some people really rise up, tighten their belts, and operate leaner and become hungrier.  Scarcity forces them to become more real and honest about what they’re doing and how effective it is or isn’t.
