Cold Hard Truth: Learning From Dragons Den’s Kevin O’Leary On Business, Money And Life Part 15
October 14, 2011
Here’s the self-evaluation quiz for determining if you’re better suited for being an entrepreneur or an employee. Answer each question with one of these 4 answers: always true, quite true, rarely true, or hell, no.
1. When adrenaline’s coursing through my veins because I’ve just made an aggressive offer (for a buyer client) and I have yet to hear what the answer is (from the seller), I feel incredibly uncomfortable and I have to lay down with a hot-water bottle on my tummy. I hate adrenaline.
2. If it’s not in my job description, I don’t do it – not because I’m lazy, but because it’s someone else’s job and I wouldn’t want to offend them.
3. Work/life balance is so important. True success means a healthy amount of “me time” for long bubble baths and walks on the beach, or for enjoying hobbies such as pottery or ballroom dancing, which can be good for stress reduction. Oh, and spending quality time with my family. I don’t like to miss any of Junior’s hockey games.
4. Sleep is incredibly important to me. In fact, I’m a grouchy little monster if I get less than my eight hours a night.
5. I like that my work duties are very clearly spelled out, with no chance for ambiguity or spontaneity, and that nothing can be put on my desk to throw me off my daily, even hourly, routine.
6. Having a steady income is very important to me
7. I don’t like office politics, but they’re a fact of life and you have to be willing to compromise and be a team player.
8. I don’t mind working in a job I don’t really like because at the end of the day you still get paid for doing it, and we all have bills to pay.
9. I’m not a very competitive person
10. I’m hesitant to quit my full time job and work full time in real estate and give my full attention to learning about real estate and building my business
If you answered Rarely True or Hell, No to most of these questions then congratulations! Both Kevin O’Leary and I believe you have a personality well suited for entrepreneurship. You should continue your path in real estate sales or get your real estate license and start learning about the business if you haven’t already. My accredited continuing education courses are a great place to start. They’re available both online and regularly in-person in the Toronto area.
