Real Estate Blogging & Site Content – Best Practices
Most real estate professionals who try their hand at blogging for their business write sporadic, very general articles on real estate. This actually does little to help your real estate business. There are two basic reasons to have a real estate blog: demonstrate your real estate expertise and help your website’s search engine optimization (SEO). When you write very general real estate articles, you’re really not giving your prospects any information they can’t find on the next real estate website they visit. So why would they sign up for your mailing list? Publishing an article every 2 months will do little for your website’s SEO as well. This article series talks about two approaches to getting great blog content: hands on and hands off approaches.
Hands On
This is where you’re actively involved in your blog’s development. It doesn’t necessarily mean you’re writing the articles yourself, it just means you’re regularly managing updates to your blog’s content.
One hands-on method is hiring a writer to create original content for you. Search engines value original content much more than content found on other websites (and believe me, these engines know the difference), so this is why it’s important to hire a writer for at least some of your blog articles. You needn’t spend a lot of money on this either and still get great results. You can find plenty of writers at sites like Elance.com who will write articles made to order very inexpensively.
However, you will most likely find it better hiring someone who has real estate knowledge, ideally someone with experience as a real estate professional. They will understand the nuances of the business a lot more than a generalist writer, and so their article quality will be much higher. The main point of a real estate blog is demonstrating you’re a self-assured expert on your local real estate market, so it isn’t a good idea to use a writer who doesn’t know anything about real estate just because they have low rates. In the slow winter months where many real estate professionals are not doing much business you may find lots of them who are good writers and willing to write articles for you.
