Using ‘Piggybacking’ For Boosting Your Site’s Search Engine Ranking Part 2

August 24, 2010

Most news sites today allow readers to leave comments on any of their articles.  If a news site doesn’t allow it right now you can be sure they’ll be allowing article comments in the near future.  Typically the site will allow you to leave a few sentences or a paragraph (sometimes more, sometimes less) with your remarks on whatever article you choose.  Your comments are then visible to anyone reading the article.  Some articles get literally thousands of user comments, making for some very lively discussion.

To find out about new real estate related articles you can usually have the site send you a daily edition of the latest news via email.  You may be able to customize what content they email you.  Some news sites may have real estate related columns for Saturday and Sunday you definitely want to read on a regular basis.

Here are few tips about what to do when making news article comments:

Always Include A BackLink – in your article comments you must include a link to some page on your website or else search engines won’t recognize you made these comments.  You can use your home page link, but if there is content on your site that deals with the article topic then provide a link to that page instead.  In this case make some of your article comments a segue way between the article’s content and the content on your linked page so people will be motivated to continue reading on the topic on your website.

Stick To The Topic – make comments directly relating to the article.  This article may be the link people find when doing their real estate search in a search engine, so if you have uninteresting or offtopic comments and only make your comments a plug for you and your website they may not see any reason to visit your website.  News sites often allow readers to flag content as spam, and it’s easy for people to think your comments are spam if they can’t make an association between your comments and the article because all you did was plug yourself.  Actual spam has started to creep into article comments so don’t get your comments deleted as they are.

Share On Social Networking Sites – if the article is directly applicable to your farm area, share it with your social network.  All major News sites will allow you to share articles with your Facebook friends and Twitter followers.  When you share an article it gets emailed to all of your friends or followers, so be very selective about what you’re sending them.  Many News sites allow you to share articles on social bookmarking sites like Digg and StumbleUpon.
