I’ve said this several times before, but it bears repeating. About 80% of home buyers are using the internet now for finding themselves a new home. Considering that much of the online advertising you can do can be done for little or no expense, you should be learning all you can to make your online ads as effective as possible. This article series takes a look at what top producers are doing with their online ads to give them an edge over the competition: (more…)

I believe in a concept I call reciprocity. This concept is called by different names in different walks of life. Each version of this concept sheds new light on what the underlying principle means, but essentially they all mean the same thing. You could state the concept as simply as “what goes around, comes around” or “you get what you give”. Isaac Newton’s Third Law of Physics states “To every action there is always an equal and opposite reaction”. In Hinduism and Buddhism the concept of karma is defined as “the total effect of a person’s actions and conduct during the successive phases of the person’s existence, regarded as determining the person’s destiny”. The popular movie The Secret called it The Law Of Attraction.
The basic idea of all of these things is that YOU are the prime mover in all your engagements with all other people. You are the one who (through your thoughts and feelings and consequent actions) determines how the other person will respond to you. In doing something (or not doing something) you actually create a like response in the other person. So you actually have far more control over how your relationships develop than you ever thought possible. Perhaps even TOTAL control! (more…)

E-Commerce Sites
There are several business related sites you can post your listings on for listing exposure and boosting your website’s search engine ranking.
Be sure to post on eBay. It’s the largest E-Commerce site in the world with over 200 million registered users. They’re the 21st most visited site in the world and the #9 and #25 visited sites in the US and Canada respectively. eBay charges in two ways: a flat fee for listing an item for sale and a Final Value fee if the item sells. In recent years eBay has shifted most of their fees to the Final Value fee to encourage more listings, so putting all your listings on eBay can be done very inexpensively. Currently less than 500 US residential homes are listed on this site! (more…)

Before Google was born and ousted Yahoo it was the top search engine in the world when the internet was in its infancy in the early-mid 1990’s. Yahoo News is a news aggregator. That is, it collect news articles from various sources. It’s like a search engine for news, much as the Associated Press or Reuters functions. Its articles come from the Associated Press (AP), Reuters, Agence France-Presse (AFP), Fox News, Christian Science Monitor, NPR, USA Today, CNN.com, CBC News, Seven News, BBC News, and others. In April 2009, Yahoo News ranked second among global news sites in U.S. users after msnbc.com. (more…)

Most news sites today allow readers to leave comments on any of their articles. If a news site doesn’t allow it right now you can be sure they’ll be allowing article comments in the near future. Typically the site will allow you to leave a few sentences or a paragraph (sometimes more, sometimes less) with your remarks on whatever article you choose. Your comments are then visible to anyone reading the article. Some articles get literally thousands of user comments, making for some very lively discussion. (more…)

If you’re one of the many real estate professionals who can never find the time for writing content for your real estate website, don’t want to do it, or can’t write well enough, here’s something else you can do for giving your website a major boost in big search engines like Google. It requires much less time and effort than writing articles. I call it piggybacking.
For understanding what piggybacking is you first need to (more…)

When Google ranks a real estate website highly (especially in the top 3-5 results) it’s no accident. Google takes very seriously who they give top ranking to in any category. So don’t make the common egoistic mistake of dismissing all your competitors or giving their efforts short shrift. Learn from the most successful ones as much you can and then better them!
Doing this analysis can be a great way of getting motivated and inspired. When you see what you’re competitors are doing you’ll probably start feeling really competitive. You’ll get a burning desire to do everything better than them and blow them out of the water! (more…)

Writing for the Web
Reading on a computer screen differs from the way people read print publications. Reading a computer screen causes more eye strain than reading something in print. Consequently, many people skim through online writing rather than reading every line.
By breaking up content into small paragraphs with headlines for each and using double spacing you can make it easier for people to read and prevent them from missing anything important to them.
Here are a few additional tips: (more…)

Write something and have a few friends and family read it. Let them judge whether your writing skills are sufficient. If they aren’t, hire someone who has these skills.
If English is not your first language and you immigrated from a foreign country in the past 5-10 years then you should definitely have someone who speaks English as their first language take a look at your writing. In most cases you will need to hire a writer. (more…)
