Making Those New Years Resolutions Easy To Keep Part 2

Handing Out Fliers

Hiring someone to hand out fliers in your neighborhood has a lot of drawbacks.  First, you have to pay the delivery people, sometimes quite a lot of money if your farm area is large.  Second, you pay not be able to control the types of people who are handing out your flier.  We all know that your personal branding is of the utmost importance.  Are these people dropping off the fliers representing you well?  Do they have a pleasant appearance and demeanor?  Are they walking across people’s lawns and through gardens to save time?  If they are, some of the people in the area will notice it and get very ticked off, and it will reflect very badly on you.

When you personally pass out fliers in your neighborhood on a regular basis, you not only get lots of exercise but you get lots of opportunities for meeting people in the area and developing relationships.  It doesn’t really matter what time of year it is.  If it’s the summer, plenty of people will be out in their yards doing some gardening, mowing the lawn, or even washing the car.  You’re obviously not as likely to see people outside during the winter, but they’re still out there occasionally.  If it snows in your area, try going out the morning after a major snowstorm.  Lots of people will be outside shoveling their driveways and walkways.  Let them take a break and pick your brain about what’s happening in the local real estate market.

Another great place to drop off fliers regularly is with the local retail businesses.  Unlike with the residential people, you’ll be able to meet most of these business owners, some of whom will live in the area.  These are perhaps the best local people to develop relationships with because they see and talk with local people regularly, more than most other residents.  So whenever possible do your shopping locally so you can develop relationships with these people.  When you give them business, they’ll be more inclined to help you out by allowing you to leave your fliers near the checkout area or even providing referrals.  If you get any referrals from these people, be sure to give them a really nice gift as a thank you, even a cash reward.  When you do this, you can bet you’ll be getting more referrals!
