Making Those New Year's Resolutions Easy To Keep Part 1

December 29, 2009

Maybe it’s the New Year’s Eve parties and the flowing champagne (or maybe the headache the morning after) that gets us thinking about the grand things we’re going to do differently this year.  The most popular ones are obviously losing weight and making more money.  Well, I have a great way for real estate professionals to do both, and you won’t even have to join a gym to do it.  You’ll enjoy yourself doing this, make more money, and get lots of enjoyable exercise year-round – and not forget about your resolutions by the end of January.

Walking And Thinking

Have you ever noticed that walking is conducive to thinking?  In ancient Greece there was a famous school called the Lyceum.  The school’s main teacher was Aristotle, a pupil of Plato and tutor to Alexander the Great.  He founded the Peripatetic style of teaching.  When teaching classes, Aristotle would walk around and his students would follow him, listening as he taught.  This was found to have an invigorating effect on his students both physically and mentally.  It’s hard to fall asleep in class when you’re walking!  So walking can be a great of getting a fresh perspective on what you’re doing with your business and your life in general.

Continuing Education With Audio Books

One of the reasons audio books are so great is you can walk around while listening to them and thinking about them, just as Aristotle’s students did.  Try getting business related, self-help, motivational or psychology related audio books.  There are now a great abundance of audio books available inexpensively in full or abridged editions you can listen to on your Ipod, MP3 or portable CD player.  For instance, Audible has over 60,000 audio books.  You can also find many older, classic books in audio format for free at sites like Librivox.  You can get these books for free because they are no longer copyrighted due to their age.  Another great thing about audio books is you can listen to them several times over and really digest them since you listen to them in your idle time such as when exercising or when driving.

Walking Your Farm Neighborhood

Walking around your neighborhood for various purposes can be one of the greatest ways of getting exercise and stimulating your mind with new ways of thinking about your business and life.  The next time you face a difficult decision, take a walk before deciding what you’ll do.  It can give you a fresh perspective on the situation and help you make better informed decisions.
