Just imagine having the ear of 282,534 people who at least respected your knowledge if not trusted you and would readily refer you to others. That number of people reminds me of when I attended the Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto concert back in 2003, often remembered as “SARS-stock”. It was headlined by the Rolling Stones and featured a dazzling array of Canadian and international talent. It’s estimated 450,000-500,000 people attended that concert. One thing I remember being in the middle of that crowd is that from horizon to horizon, you could see nothing but people. In fact, there were so many people that you couldn’t even tell there were even nearly that many people there.
You could only realize the magnitude of the crowd size when you saw an aerial picture of the crowd taken from above. Here’s what it looked like. Even viewing the crowd from the stage level, there’s nothing but people in the entirety of the background. As you can see in the aerial shot, the crowd was roughly divided in half by the section where the sound equipment was, so that’s about 225,000 people on each side of this section. To give you a better idea of the crowd size, those 4 little objects above the MOL part of Molson in the bottom left are 4 semi tractor trailers.
So just imagine having a database of that many people after 25 years. Do I need to illustrate what this would be for you further? I think not. Moreover, if you decided to retire at that point or do something different (obviously being very wealthy at that point), imagine how much you could sell your database for to any of the major real estate companies out there like Remax. That database, coupled you’re your Search Engine Optimized website, could together be sold for millions of dollars! Imagine selling information that could fit on a DVD for more money than most people sell their homes!
Back to the Law Of Diminishing Returns. I actually believe this law can be applied to anything in life. It certainly can be applied to your business. Think of Maria, sending out the same calendar to her farm area once a year, year after year, for the past 25 years. In year one, this probably would have looked pretty cool to some people. But I’d be more likely to keep this flier if it was a magnet so I could put it on my fridge. So I’m probably likely to lose this flier or throw it away.
