In the previous article we discussed how you can use your farm area’s ethnicity as a marketing angle. Another great angle is finding out interests common to many people in these neighborhoods and adding content to your website reflecting these interests. When you do this, your web pages with this content will become found in search engines for those interests, so many people who look these interests or hobbies up on the web will find your website, and they may also be looking to buy or sell a home soon. Here are some ideas for doing this:
Interest Specific Residences
One of the latest innovations in new residential developments are ones designed with a specific interest or hobby in mind. For instance, in downtown Toronto the Hollywood director Ivan Reitman worked with a local developer to create the Festival Tower, a building catering to film buffs. The building will feature a state-of-the-art viewing theater with exclusive screenings for the building’s residents. It’s also the new home for the Toronto International Film Festival, one of the world’s most acclaimed annual film fests. So you can bet they will have gala screenings with celebrities at this theatre.
A town called Thornbury north of Toronto has long been known for it’s equestrian and horse shows, so when it came time to re-model the property where the shows were held, a condominium was built in conjunction with the new design and caters to horse lovers.
So if your own personal interests and the related content you have coincides with any of these types of residences, be sure to have information on them on your site as well.
Skiing
Let’s say your farm areas are rural areas near one or more ski resorts. Make your website a skiing information portal. You could have updates on weather conditions, reviews on the best slopes and trails, directories and reviews of local restaurants, hotels, motels and bed and breakfasts, how to score deals, and anything else relevant to the resorts and the sport in general. The key thing is to make your content mostly opinion based (eg. reviews) because the website’s of the resorts themselves will probably have far more and far better factual information than you could ever come up with.
Another key thing to remember when considering what interest type content to put on your site is you should pick something you love. Maybe you love sailing, so you should pick a farm area close to the water or a marina where lots of people in the area will own boats. It’ll be a labor of love to include lots of information on sailing and boating on your website.
